Time Change 2025: When to Set Your Clocks Back
Countries that follow daylight saving time are preparing for the time change in 2025. Clocks will be set one hour back on the morning of the last Sunday of October October 26th starting at 4:00 AM. This procedure follows the European Parliament Directive 2000/84 from 2001 which regulates the end of daylight saving time.
The purpose of this periodic time adjustment is to make better use of daylight. It helps reduce energy consumption during the winter months. The system involves resetting clocks twice a year while most Asian and African countries do not participate.
The concept of time change dates back to 1784 when Benjamin Franklin suggested it to save more natural light. A century later British businessman William Willett supported the idea and published an article titled “Waste of Daylight” in 1907 though his government did not adopt it.
In the 19th century New Zealand entomologist George Hudson proposed a practical method to adjust clocks based on his observation of longer daylight hours in summer and their impact on insect collection. This method laid the foundation for the current system.
Experts advise citizens to use smartphone apps to remind them of the time change. This helps avoid disruptions in daily routines and ensures punctuality for both official and personal appointments.
