Weapons arsenal found in garbage bin in Athens suburb
A weapons arsenal found in a garbage bin in Kaisariani suburb of Athens late at night on Monday set authorities on alert.
The weapons were discovered by a local resident who immediately informed the police.
An explosives disposal team unit was immediately dispatched to the scene and after inspection the weapons were transferred to forensic laboratories for examination.

Among the items confiscated were:
two grenade release levers, one defensive grenade with detonator, ten mortar shell heads, ammunition of various calibers, a disassembled 22mm handgun, oxidized World War II weapon parts, three revolver barrels, a Thompson sub-machine gun barrel, iron fists, handcuffs, extendable batons, cartridge cases, weapon breech blocks as well as 14 icons.

Authorities are reviewing security camera footage in the area to determine how the weapons ended up in the bin and identify who may have tried to discard them. No suspects have been reported at this stage.
Investigation is ongoing.
