Nia Styra Earthquake 5.2 Richter – Lekkas Explains Aftershocks and Fault Safety
The region of Nia Styra experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale this evening raising concern among local residents.
In a statement to ERT Radio the President of the Organization of Astronomy and Astrophysics OASP and Professor of Geology Efthymis Lekkas said that initial data is still under evaluation but aftershocks are expected in the coming hours.
Lekkas added that the situation is under control stressing that the geological fault in this specific area does not produce major earthquakes which is considered a reassuring factor for both residents and authorities.
Experts confirmed that aftershocks are a normal phenomenon in such cases urging citizens to remain calm and follow official safety guidelines.
