Greece Implements New Immigration Law: Closed Centers and Strict Policy
Greece Enforces New Immigration Law Closed Centers and Strict Measures
In a move reflecting the new direction of the Greek government on immigration Minister of Migration and Asylum Thanos Plevris visited refugee reception centers in northern Greece. The visit included the cities of Kavala Drama and Lagkadas as part of his participation in the Thessaloniki International Fair.
During the visit the minister met with officials and staff at the centers emphasizing their vital role in managing immigration issues. He stressed that the government will implement the newly passed law under which illegal immigrants will face either imprisonment or deportation.
Plevris noted that this policy aims to reduce illegal immigration and make Greece less attractive to unauthorized migrants. He also announced plans to visit all refugee reception centers in northern Greece next month to assess the situation closely and identify the actual needs of these centers.
The minister added that the government does not plan to increase the number of existing centers. Instead some centers will be closed or converted into closed facilities to ensure better management of immigration under the new law.

This visit comes at a sensitive time as Greece faces increasing challenges in the immigration sector requiring decisive and effective measures to manage the situation.
