Greece Sounds Alarms in Major Parmenion 2025 Defense Drill
Greece is preparing to test air raid sirens across the country at the beginning of October as part of the Parmenion 2025 exercise. The drill simulates air raids and chemical biological radiological and nuclear threats.
On Wednesday October 1 2025 sirens will sound nationwide. The exercise is organized by the Greek Army in cooperation with Civil Defense.
The Greek Police confirmed in an official statement that the activation of sirens does not represent a real threat. The purpose is to test civil defense systems and improve readiness. Citizens are urged not to worry or seek shelters.
Church bells join the drill
At the same time church bells will ring rapidly for three minutes simulating public alerts during a real emergency.

Challenges in Previous Years
In past tests some citizens reported not hearing the sirens in their areas while other devices failed completely. Concerns were also raised about the lack of public shelters as their locations are reportedly known only to authorities.
Strategic Importance
The Parmenion 2025 exercise carries strategic weight. It is not limited to air raid simulations but also includes training for chemical biological radiological and nuclear threats. This highlights Athens’ serious commitment to strengthening its defense system amid growing regional challenges.
