Bad Weather Wave Hits Greece: Rain Storms and Snow on the Mountains

Autumn announces its strong presence in Greece with rain expected on Wednesday while residents prepare for a new wave of bad weather starting Thursday. This will include heavy rain local storms and snow on the northern mountains.

Wednesday Weather Forecast
Forecasts indicate local rain on the mainland east of Pindus with occasional clouds and scattered storms around noon. Meanwhile the west will see sunny skies with few clouds increasing in the afternoon leading to evening rain and storms in western areas. Temperatures will be moderate and winds will not exceed 35 Beaufort at sea.


Thursday Weather Forecast
From the early hours of Thursday conditions will change significantly as the bad weather wave starts from the west and gradually affects most areas of Greece. The country will experience rain and locally strong storms while the first snowfalls appear in the northern mountains.

Winds will blow southeast at 4-6 Beaufort initially turning later to northwest at 7 Beaufort in the north. In the east winds will be northwest then gradually south at 4-6 Beaufort. Temperatures will drop to 16-18°C in the north 20-21°C across the mainland and 24-26°C in some islands.

Friday Weather Forecast
Rain and storms will continue across most of Greece weakening gradually after noon with temporary snow in the northern mountains. Winds will be northwestern in the west and Ionian Sea and southwesterly in the east with further temperature decreases.

Weekend Weather Forecast
On Saturday some clouds will appear with temporary rain in central and southern Greece and the eastern Aegean Sea. Winds from the west will reach 35 Beaufort and temperatures will remain stable. On Sunday clouds will be few in most areas gradually increasing from the west with local rain in the afternoon and scattered storms in the northwest. Southwesterly winds at 35 Beaufort may cause slight temperature rises in some regions.

Greece faces several days of unstable weather. Authorities advise monitoring conditions and exercising caution during storms especially in the northern mountainous areas where temporary snowfalls may occur.
